Dagala Thousand Lakes Trek
There is an enduring legend that the area around Dagala Range once had one thousand lakes. Yak herders and nomads believe that there are at least 108 lakes in the region-a sacred number in Buddhism. There is an old proverb popular among the people of this area: “a shepherd might die of old age here but still won’t know the entire area.” Dagala Thousand Lakes Trek is designed to give you a glimpse of this mystical region. The trek derives its name from Dagala, the presiding deity of the area. Once part of a thriving trade route, this region barely gets any visitors today and, as a result, retains its rustic charm and pristine beauty. This trek not only takes you to some of the most beautiful lakes but also offers breathtaking views of the Himalayas and surrounding valleys. Some remnants of the ancient era are still visible here. Throughout the trek you will hike through lush valleys, dense forests and meadows dotted with yaks and goats. Along the way, you will come across nomads and shepherds who still follow their traditional way of life. This trek is ideal for those who wish to have moments of peace and tranquillity away from other bustling tourist sites.
